Particolare dell'architravatura del portone

The church of San Bernardino is a sacred building in the Matteotti street. In the past it was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and belonged to the Commando of the Knights of Malta, which took it after the abolition of the Jerusalem Order, which, since the beginning of the XIV century owned it, managing the annexed and more recent hospital. Of the long stay in Asciano of the Knights of Jerusalem it rests an inscription which is walled into the church, which reminds the restoring of the building in 1324. Since the late XVIII century , it belonged to the Confraternity of Saint Bernardino, which transferred here the venerated Jesus’ Name and it was until some years ago the temporary seat of the archaeological museum.
