Montauto
MONTAUTO GIUSEPPI. Farmhouse with parish church (Saint Andrea in Montauto), to which it is annexed the chapel of Saint Bartolomeo of the Casal de’Frati. It is on a hill of shell-shaped marl, surrounded by calanques, under which it flows, on the western side the river Arbia and on the southern side the river Ombrone. In the middle Ages it was an independent fortified commune until the middle of the XVIII century and then it was embodied in the commune of Asciano. Nowadays it has been turned into a villa by a well-known German politician. You can only admire the beauty of its landscape because it is enclosed and not reachable.
