The discovery made in 1899 in the center of Asciano a mosaic in an excellent state of preservation in a garden owned by the family Francini - Naldi not surprising given the origins of the Etruscan place. The remains probably refer to a building thermal baths perhaps sulfur placed in a high position above the torrent Bestina. It has also trace of a strong perimeter wall.
The mosaic consists of two rooms and that is a rectangular, used as a place of receipt and exedra (vain seats fitted with fixed or mobile) used square-shaped rest of the owners. The decoration consists of floral repeated plea content circles bribes to one another and they are number 4 on the short side and 9 on the longest. It 'still part of a strip that circles the closed tutto.In each circle is comprised of a four-rosette leaves trilobal pistil with a heart-shaped. Among the leaves are trilobal twigs or buds stylized and between the circles there are leaves dentellate willing to cross. The colors are red, yellow, grey azzurrognolo, white and nero.Il design is then surrounded by a double row of bands whose inner consists of a bell reason to form a diamond pattern alternately straight and curved sides white on a black background, while the external arch of black combined with ogive white.
The dell'esedra decoration, which is communicating with the classroom through a belt containing ova squares and white on a black background, is surrounded by an outer wrapper with arches and ogive and consists of a star motif, given by 8 diamonds alternated with squares. The stars ending with diamonds where there are nodes of Solomon, while the squares have within skeins. The colors are yellow, red, white and nero.Il mosaic of Asciano reflected chronologically, exedra for the imperial period where he was very popular (some houses of Pompeii of the first century AD and Ostia second century AD) and the classroom to African mosaics (Timgad in Algeria, III - the fourth century AD).
