La scarpa del palazzo vista da nord ovest

This building, which presents itself as the biggest tower of the circle of walls of the village, has been the seat of the governors or podestas of Asciano for at least three centuries(from the XIV and the XVI century). The proof of this comes from the numerous coats of arms in its front. This palace is situated at the end of Piazza del Grano, commercial heart of the village during the Middle Ages and so it is well collocated as regards as the control of the commercial and productive activities. Unfortunately, in recent times, maybe because of its dimensions, the building was first turned into a theatre endowed with a big stage, boxes and galleries. About the 50’s of the last century it had had adding works to be transformed into a modern cinema. With the failure of this last activity, the building has lost every kind of commercial interest and nowadays it is nearly abandoned.
