Today the locality is reduced to a farmhouse consisting of two buildings, although until 1777 it was an autonomous rural town with a parish church dedicated to San Bartolomeo and annexed later to the parish church of Vescona.
Its origins derive from a gradual human aggregation around an ancient watchtower, located in a point particularly suitable for the garrison of the Ombrone valley and those of some of its tributaries.
Even today, it is enough to go there to understand its great importance in the signaling system, for its location at the turn of the territories of Scialenga and those of the Sienese Republic.
In ancient times it was the master of the Badia di S. Eugenio in the Monastery of Siena, a domain confirmed by the emperor Arrigo IV in 1081, and by Federigo in 1185.
The place probably lost strategic importance, from the second half of the XII century, after the definitive consolidation of the pacification with the ex dominion of the Cacciaconti.
After 1777 it was definitively incorporated into the territory belonging to the Municipality of Asciano.
