Architectural Description
Located next to the ecclesiastical complex of the Collegiate Church of Sant'Agata, the old cemetery (from the late nineteenth century replaced by the Stadio Comunale) and the ancient Porta Maggiore (M4) to the south-east of the walls, built on the remains of an imposing bastion defensive, having the function of an angular tower, much altered, it has a shoe base surmounted by a bull (fig. D.13). It has two square wings. On the west façade there is a Renaissance-style brick portal. On the east elevation, a window opens with windows. The chapel was officiated by the lay company of the Sacred Nail, which, by statute, had as
main activity suffrage to the souls of the dead.
The masonry technique is the usual filaretto with stone corners. It presents some reworkings, like traces of plaster and the roofs, which for the central body is a pavilion, for the north one-sided wing and for the gabled west wing with Marseilles tiles.
