Marta Perugini, a Sienese artist, lives and works in her hometown. Her works combine the art of the icon with the Italic art of the so-called Sienese "primitives" and are rigorously crafted using ancient techniques, including gilding with pure, burnished, and stamped gold leaf, preparing the panel, and painting with egg tempera with semi-precious natural pigments.
She studied under Maestro Stalnov at the St. Petersburg Academy for five years, learned the ancient and complex technique of gouache gilding with teachers from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, and furthered her knowledge by attending the Ancient Painting Techniques course at the Porta Romana Art Institute in Florence.
She has exhibited in prestigious venues in Italy and abroad and has won international awards.
Her works are held in public and private collections in Ireland, Austria, and the United States.
She has published (with M. Seriacopi) two essays on iconography and edited an art catalog.
