Old paths between Asciano and Serre di Rapolano

ASCIANO

Dettagli

Lunghezza del percorso: 8,58 km

Tipologia del fondo: Misto sterrato/creta

Difficoltà: Medio-alta

Photo safari 7 - Taking advantage of the new car park between the access roundabout to the town and the church dedicated to Our Lady of the Garden, you can start from here, on foot or by MBK, for a circular route of almost nine km.

The excursion does not present any difficulties, except for the initial climb to reach the Locco farm, which is rather steep and characterized by a heavily gravel bed.

The landscape which, however, you can enjoy, above said locality, repays the effort just completed. On both sides of the country road with a clay bottom, you can observe and photograph truly unique views.

On the right you see the historic center of Asciano, surrounded by greenery and on the right the Ombrone valley, surrounded by splendid hills. Shortly after, turning left, you take an old hillside road that leads to the La Casella farm and then to the Pieve dei Preti, giving us a view of the countryside as far as the eye can see.

Beyond La Pieve dei Preti, on the simistra, splendid gullies can be photographed with their pointed gray-white limestone spiers.

Once you reach the top of the route, near the old Poggetti furnace, you begin to descend until you reach the Piano road, which runs alongside the Ombrone river and takes you back to the church of the Garden.

This second part of the route with the bottom still in clay is easy only if dry, difficult and slippery in humid periods or following recent rains. However along the entire return journey, not a moment passes in which splendid landscapes typical of the Crete Senesi can be immortalized photographically.
