An old road through the woods

RAPOLANO TERME

Dettagli

Lunghezza del percorso: 37,7 km

Tipologia del fondo: Misto Asfalto/sterrato

Difficoltà: Medio-bassa

Tracked quiet but challenging enough for the ups and downs and turns that you face. The feature of the route is to take place mainly through the woods or around them. The road is paved and part prevalentemnte from Terme Antica Querciolaia, taking the tunnel under the freeway and headed toward the cold baths. From here we continue through the village of Gunsmith who crosses, pausing a moment to admire the beautiful Romanesque church. Take then a steep descent, passing back under the freeway and turn right, go down the valley that runs along the Ombrone, first right and then left, up the right fork which leads to Monte San Savino. From here you begin to climb through the woods, facing a significant amount of bends. Carry among lush vegetation to the junction of Dreini, near the castle of Gargonza. Here, we start by going right down towards the reservoir Calcione, along wooded areas and dealing with numerous switchbacks. Arrived at the junction of Mill Calcione go right back to the castle of Modanella. This last stretch of path, until the industrial area of Sentino, takes place on gravel road. From the industrial area, take the bridge over the motorway and at roundabout turn right Serre facing the last long climb of Riccia, again surrounded by woods. At the top, you can enjoy a splendid view of the Crete and a unique panoramic view of Rapolano, a place that has a rapid descent facing a pretty steep. Crossing the country from the provincial road south to north you go, after the level crossing, to the point of departure at the Baths.Tracked quiet but challenging enough for the ups and downs and turns that you face.
