Along the ancient road that connected Asciano to Trequanda and San Giovanni d'Asso, in the stretch known as Grottoli, there is an agricultural farmhouse located right above a spring that feeds a watering source.
From a stratigraphic examination of the building, it is immediately evident that in the past the original structure consisted only of a tower-house with a walled courtyard, an architecture that can be placed in the thirteenth century.
It is assumed that this structure had the function of guarding the underlying source, but also of a sighting and signaling point, in connection with other structures in the area.
