Mucigliani

ASCIANO

MUCIGLIANI, between the valley of Arbia and that of the sienese Ombrone. It is a destroyed castle, replaced by few houses of farmers with parish church(Saint Andrew), near Vescona. It is on the top of one of the highest marl hill of the area, from which you can admire a splendid landscape with the city of Siena on the background. On the sides of the hill of Mucigliani flow the streams which originate and feed the torrent Biena, affluent of the Arbia. In the past there is a small castle of the counts of the Berardenga since 1023. Then, Mucigliani, in the XIII century, belonged to a certain Ranuccio di Griffolo, to whom the commune of Siena in 1251 confirmed the Mucigliani’s dominion. In recent times, the place with the annexed farmhouses has been bought by the sienese patrician family of Saracini, which joined it to their bordering holding of Vescona.MUCIGLIANI, between the valley of Arbia and that of the sienese Ombrone.
