In San Giovanni d’Asso, a natural bridge between the Crete senesi and the Val d’Orcia, rich in farmhouses, lanes and castles, it has been recently inaugurated the first Italian museum of the truffle. The scenary of this intervention are the undergrounds of the fourteenth-century castle of San Giovanni , 250 square metres for a journey which starts with a sounding of the European culture. It is just the “truffle’s mystery”, fed by witchcraft, science and erotic, the first theme which is tackled during the life’s path: from the legend which says that it was originated by a thunderbolt to the real scientific definition, the visitor catches soon the historical moments in which the esteemed tuber has been famous in the western society. Then, we found the first involving sensorial experiences offered by the museum, in a continuous game through patterns of which the protagonist is the touch, to look into some jars; the hearing, distinguishing the footprints of the dog or the noise of the spade; the taste through little tastings and finally the so-called “odorama”, the real merry-go-round dedicated to the sense of smell. To the sight is reserved a human dimension-reconstruction of the truffle itself, accompanied by multimedia contributions to the natural habitat; such technologies enrich also the last section of the museum, a cooking curriculum which reproduces a farm canteen and a high-middle class one and looks into the techniques of collection, preservation and use in cooking. At the end of the pattern there is the information centre wher you can find interactively several knowledge which are implicit in the visit, thanks to the interesting teaching-laboratories.
