T00 - Ex Torre Porcellotti

ASCIANO

Recent inspections have highlighted the existence of a tower of which only a few traces remain, located inside the former "Urban farm Porcellotti", now owned by Venturi.

The tower is located in front of the ancient ford on the Bestina, connected to the road junction of the church of Madonna del Giardino.

This small tower, presumably belonging to the first wall circle, raises the doubt that, next to it, there was the ancient Porta Senese.

The perfect alignment of the hypothetical leads to the path of what is now Corso Matteotti, as well as the corresponding Porta Valdichiana to the south.

Subsequent investigations will soon lead to confirm or not the validity of what is hypothesized.

However, the strange conjunction between the Bargagli-Stoffi and Porcellotti buildings, with the steep curvature of the road, would seem to structurally confirm the hypothesis.
