San Lorenzo a Monterongrifoli

SAN GIOVANNI D'ASSO

 LISTEN THE AUDIO GUIDE

The church of San Lorenzo in Monterongrifoli is a wide bricked-structure with a simple sloping roof. On the inside, where there is only one nave, has lost the aspect of medieval church to gain a late eighteenth-century shape. To that period dates back the devotion to Saint Isidoro Agricola, to whom it is dedicated the right altar and to Saint Ermidio, protector of the earthquakes victims, to the intercession of whom it is attributed the rescue of village from a big earthquake. The Saint is still celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of August. In the ancient church it was kept the polyptic from the studio of Duccio di Buoninsegna with the “Madonna with Christ Child and the Saints Agostino Martire, Leonardo, Marcellino and Lorenzo”, now in the Diocesan Museum of Pienza. The church of San Lorenzo in Monterongrifoli is a wide bricked-structure with a simple sloping roof.
