San Pietro a Poggio Santa Cecilia

RAPOLANO TERME

 LISTEN THE AUDIO GUIDE

The church of San Pietro is a sacred building in Poggio Santa Cecilia, in Rapolano Terme. As attests a tombstone at the entrance, it was transferred here in 1798 the parish of the ancient church of Santa Maria in Ferrata, near the castle. The front is classical, with lateral pilaster strips and portal in stone with a triangular tympanum surrounded by the coat of arms of Pietro Buoninsegni of 1690, which attests the patronage of the family. The inside, with only one nave with three altars, has been completely restored in the XIX century. In fact, to the 20’s of the XIX century dates back the building of the main altar in stucco, the choir, the wall tempera-painting with sacred subjects by Vincenzo Dei, which have been partly replaced in the Presbyterian area with wall-paintings by P.Sorio, dated 1943.The church of San Pietro is a sacred building in Poggio Santa Cecilia, in Rapolano Terme.
