 LISTEN THE AUDIO GUIDE

The castle of saint Bartolomeo(or Castle of the Saint)is a sacred building in Rapolano Terme. Of Romanesque origin, without a front and situated between two buildings, was in old times linked to a hospital for pilgrims and sick people, called Hospital of the Saint, closed in 1752. The stone wall has got a simple portal with a round arch and another one which is similar to it in walling, and a small sail-belltower. On the right side are come out some fourteenth-century frescoes( Saint Michele Arcangelo and saint Francesco). The main altar has a splendid canvas by Vincenzo Rustici(1557-1632) with the Madonna with Christ Child, Saint Bartolomeo and Saint Cristoforo. On the left side there is the stucco-altar dedicated to Saint Antonio from Padova, shaped according to the architectonic fifteenth-century frames with lateral pilaster strips, festoon-cornice and lunette with the Martyrdom of saint Bartolomeo.
