SAN GIOVANNI D'ASSO

 LISTEN THE AUDIO GUIDE

It is situated on a hillock on the right bank of the river Asso. It was a signory of the Piccolominis, then of the Marsili. Giulio Accarigi, prior of Venice and one of this family’s member, in 1639, assigned to Petrazzi the Saint Girolamo’s painting for the chapel at the foot of the castle. Starting from San Giovanni, you can reach it after about 2 kilometres, climbing up the hill which leads to Monterongrifoli. It is structurally made up of two big buildings, one of which is Medieval, as the scarp base and the remains of the ancient “piombatoi” testify, the other one is more recent and many times worked over.It is situated on a hillock on the right bank of the river Asso.
