DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
This pane also displays a scene of broad, initially attributed to Urbano da Cortona. More recent studies have instead attributed to Francesco di Giorgio, on the basis of close similarity between the figure of Judith and the many young girls painted by him and for setting such "ideal" of the historical city. The scene, thoroughly restored in 1790 by Carlo Amidei and Matteo Pini, tells the story of Judith of Bethulia. It, to save their city, killed the leader of the besieging Assyrians after me drunk in his camp. Here is represented as with the maid, comes back to town with the head of the tyrant in a basket. From the walls, in the meantime, the Jewish cavalry lance against the enemy in disarray due to the absence of their commander. There are numerous references to classic, especially in architecture decorated with festoons and tombstones decorated with busts of humanities.
