Andando a rivisitare la storia dei molti castelli della Scialenga, controllati dai vari rami familiari dei Cacciaconti fra il 1000 e la fine del 1200, si delinea abbastanza chiaramente che essa occupava buona parte dei territori corrisondenti al bacino superiore del fiume Ombrone.
