Modanella
The castle of Modanella is at the edge of a valley called Sentino, which is the extreme layer of the Val di Chiana. You can see it going through the superhighway Bettolle- Siena, just before the crossing for Serre di Rapolano. It is a farmhouse with the annexed parish church(Saint John the Evangelist).it was an ancient Signory of the counts of the Berardenga and Scialenga. It is mentioned by an assignment as a dowry to the Abbey of Saint Salvatore of the Berardenga and of some of their possessions in Modanella. Then it was bought by the noble sienese family of Piccolomini. We know that in the XIII century, the Sienes Republic had in Modanella a civil official representative of the podesta of Siena. At present, it has been turned into a farm and farm holiday.
