DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION

Oil on canvas, 146 x 184 cm.

The Martyrdom of a Holy Bishop is an oil on canvas painting created by the Baroque painter Francesco Nasini around the 1660s.

The work was originally part of the Church of San Lorenzo in San Francesco. Today, it can be admired in the Civic Museum of Palazzo Corboli in Asciano.

Francesco Nasini was an important member of a family of painters very active on Mount Amiata and in the Siena area during the Baroque period.

The painting is paired with another canvas by the same artist, entitled "Death of a Holy Bishop to whom the Redeemer Appears," also from the Church of San Lorenzo.

The museum of Palazzo Corboli also houses two other paintings by Nasini from the same church: "Hagar and the Angel" and "Saint Peter and Saint Petronilla."
